Sarah McQuaid: Music

King of the Fairies/The Blackbird

(Sarah McQuaid)
Trad arr. S. McQuaid/G. O’Beirne
The first tune is a very old set dance; I learned it from the playing of the excellent Northern group Déanta on their eponymous first album, and it was also recorded many years ago by Horslips. The second tune takes its title from a nickname for Bonny Prince Charlie. I thought I’d invented the harmony until I listened to De Danann’s debut album for the first time in years, and there it was, a duet with Alec Finn and Charlie Piggott playing harmonising bouzoukis – although they call it ‘The Sunny Banks’. Still, this is a slightly different version. (Sarah – melody and harmony guitars; Gerry O’Beirne – backing guitar, ukelele; Rod McVey – keyboards)
